SAKU 咲

Japanese word meaning to bloom; or to smile/laugh. The 口 in 咲 signifies an open mouth

Saku is a Japanese restaurant specializing in robata grilling of yakitori & kushiyaki (skewers grilled over Japanese charcoal), high quality sushi, classic Japanese comfort food, handcrafted cocktails and sakes in the heart of Uptown Charlotte.

Combining the fresh flavors of the ocean with the heat and tradition of the robata grill, our creative culinary team is here to bring you a new dining experience. Robata literally means “around the hearth.” The cooking style originated centuries ago on the island of Japan, where fishermen needed a way to cook on their boats. They encased Binchotan charcoal in stone or sand, providing both a cooking space and a source of heat. Today, our chefs attentively grill over the same hardwood charcoal to maintain precise temperatures, constantly tending the grill to achieve perfection. Our kitchen and sushi bar draw on the traditions of the past, but our passionate team of chefs drive it towards the future. We bring together the food and people of many cultures with the singular vision of making a truly memorable dining experience for you.

We offer a variety of bite-sized marinated skewers inspired by savory bold Asian flavors grilled on our robata grill with Japanese charcoal imported from Japan.
